SWEWW 2016 Masks & Mosaics: Sacred & Secular Music in 16th Century Venice
South West Early Winds Weekend returns to Frome, Somerset on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th April 2016, for another weekend of music-making in this beautiful Somerset town. The weekend will consist of two days exploring sacred and secular music from 16th-century Venice with tutors Adam Woolf and Helen Roberts, culminating in a short presentation of our work on the Sunday evening (finish by 7pm). We will include some large-scale pieces by favourites such as Giovanni and Andrea Gabrieli along with sacred and secular works by Adriano Banchieri, Adrian Willaert and Claudio Merulo. We will be joined once again by members of Christchurch Singers, some of whom will perform works from the madrigal repertoire to complement our final presentation.
The course fee is £95 (£50 for students). We are delighted that so many people are keen to participate in our event, but this year we are limiting places to 10 sackbuts (to include 2 double reed instruments, depending on range) and 6 cornetti, in order to make the weekend a fulfilling and informative event for all. Places will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis and we will operate a waiting list. To reserve your place, download an application form from the link below and return it together with a cheque for your course fees to the address on the form (cheques WON'T be cashed until much nearer the time!) Contact Helen at [email protected] if you have any questions.
Places for sackbuts, dulcians and shawm are now full, but there are three remaining places for cornettists.
